The 3-star Centrum Hotel for years has been not only the tallest but also one of the best Łódź hotels. It hosts tourists, important politicians, business persons, artists and Plus Camerimage festival stars. In 1999, it obtained the recommendation of the Polish Hotel Association.
The hotel was opened in 1976 in the very heart of the city, at 59/63 Kilińskiego Street, opposite the Łódź Fabryczna Railway-Coach Station. The red neon sign presenting its name is clearly visible from the distance of many kilometres as this soaring high-rise building reaches the height of 49 metres. There used to be a patio in the building which led to the reception area and was decorated with a beautiful fountain surrounded by palm trees and plants. It is said that numerous guests attempted a short swim in this beautiful pool.
This hotel has always been a representative facility. Numerous celebrities stayed in its rooms and suites, including the Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, the Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller or Israeli ambassadors Shevah Weiss and David Peleg. This place has also been frequented by artists, including the French composer and singer Charles Aznavour, composer Jan A. P. Kaczmarek, Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer (guests of the Festival of Dialogue of Four Cultures) and Ewa Demarczyk, Ewa Bem, Czesław Niemen, members of Skaldowie, Budka Suflera and Vox. The participants of the only plenum of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party held outside Warsaw stayed here. Moreover, the hotel hosted the participants of the opening ceremony of the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital, one of the biggest Polish maternity hospitals. Athletes also choose our hotel. In 2008, 200 wrestlers from 16 countries stayed in the Centrum and Światowit Hotels during two great tournaments, where they trained for the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Since 2001, when the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography Plus Camerimage was moved from Toruń to Łódź, the Centrum Hotel has been its biggest organizational and accommodation facility. The most famous celebrities usually stay on the 8th floor, where several 4-star suites are located. One of them has been rebuilt especially for the American director David Lynch, who stays in the Centrum Hotel not only during the festival but also during all his visits in Łódź. The artist agreed to name this suite after him, and since it is also available to other guests it is really hard to book a vacancy there.
Each suite has a different shape. The David Lynch's suite has a hall leading to the business room and the living room with a bar and TV. There is a huge 40-metre bathroom with a heated floor, bathtub and shower. It is connected with the bedroom allowing access to the living room.
In the Centrum Hotel restaurant and casino bustling with the festival life, one could meet numerous American and European film stars (actors, directors and cameramen) including Willem Defoe, Christopher Doyle, Ralph Fiennes, Ed Harris, James Ivory, Irene Jacob, Janusz Kamiński, Val Kilmer, Laszlo Kovacs, Volker Schlondorff or Vittorio Storaro.
Although the Centrum Hotel has 263 rooms, and also facilities in the other four hotels belonging to the "Centrum-Hotele" Sp. z o.o. partnership are made available for the festival guests, rooms are usually booked here even 3 months before the start of the Plus Camerimage festival.
Apart from the high standard and a variety of services on offer (including dry sauna, fitness club, massage, casino, cocktail bar and high-class suites with jacuzzi), the obvious advantage of the hotel is its location, as it is situated a few steps away from the railway station and Piotrkowska Street on the other side. Just round the corner there is "Łódzki Dom Kultury" (Łódź House of Culture) with its 4 art galleries and various associations organizing interesting concerts, shows or important festivals (e.g. Comic Books Festival or Łódź Theatre Meetings). Such attractions as The Łódź Concert Hall, The Grand Theatre and the Stefan Jaracz Theatre are only a few minutes' walk away. You can also easily get to pubs around Narutowicza Street and Dąbrowski Square. Moreover, if the plans regarding the creation of the 90-hectare New City Centre around the Fabryczna Railway-Coach Station (the station is to be located underground) and the historical EC 1 thermal-electric station come into existence, the hotel will undoubtedly become the best located accommodation facility in Łódź.
